This painting was created by Frida Kahlo when she married her husband Diego Rivera back in 1929. It depicts Frida in the way Diego appreciated her. In the painting, Frida wears the Mexican ancestral dress, which was the style that Diego constantly used as part of his murals. The Mexican attire was worn by Frida throughout her life in addition to using traditional bright colors. This work was auctioned at Sotheby’s New York for five million dollars in 2000. This record made Frida Kahlo the best-selling South American artist in history.
